Book Promotion Secrets (February 2005)

The Ink Tree Report February, 2005

Dear author/publisher,

Looks like 2005 is shaping up to be just as crazy as 2004. I'm working hard to get next month's newsletter put together before I take off on March 5th for my wedding and honeymoon! Lots of planning still to do... You'll hear all about it when I get back.

By the way, we've made loads of changes to our website this year, so if you haven't been there in a while, make sure you check it out.

On with this month's newsletter...

Book Promotion Secrets

This article was selected from our free article bank which you can find here: http://www.inktreemarketing.com/selfpublishingarticles.htm

You can have the best book in the world, but are customers going to line up to buy your book if they have never heard of it?

Book promotion for authors takes a lot of work and persistence. Above all, you must believe in your book and be dedicated to the task of promoting it.

Becoming aware of the most effective author book promotion techniques is a vitally important first step. You have to identify your market and specifically recognize your ideal customer. You may not think this is necessary, but what it will do is allow you to narrow down the precise book promotion techniques that will yield the best results for your book. Your primary goal is to sell books. Sell them to the people who want to buy them.

Here are our top 5 author book promotion tips:

Book Promotion Tip #1. Start with a quality product. Your book must be able to compete with the books put out by large publishing houses. Head down the bookstores and check out all the books there. Your book must look like those books. If it doesn't, your book promotion efforts will likely disappoint you.

Book Promotion Tip #2. Create a publicity plan that lasts for at least 2 years. Don't plan for a one-time blitz of sending out news releases announcing your new book. Spend time figuring out how to create 'news' out of your book. Take it beyond the obvious and make the media notice you. Believe it or not, you can easily do this without spending a fortune.

Book Promotion Tip #3. Don't focus only on bookstore sales. There are so many places to sell your book outside of the bookstores. There are places that will buy your book in large volumes -- with no returns. The more buyers like this you find, the more books you will sell.

Book Promotion Tip #4. Don't leave out internet sales for your book. Is there a better way to reach your customer directly today? Not only will you have the perfect audience, but you'll also retain 100% of your profits made through website sales. No distributor fees to pay, no agent commissions to pay, just cash in your pocket.

Book Promotion Tip #5. Be persistent. Whatever you do, don't abandon your book promotion plan if it's not working right away. Stick with it and adapt. If one promotional technique isn't working for your book... move on to the next. Your book has a message and that message needs to reach the customer.

Catching the interest of your target audience is your main goal when developing your book promotion plans. You can have the best book in the world, but if no one knows about it, no one will buy it. It will take time to figure out the best way to reach your target customer, but you'll get it. Once you do, you'll sell a LOT of books.

Tips You Can Use

Many authors and self publishers find that breaking into public speaking is an incredible way to boost book sales. It's not uncommon for a speaker to sell products to over 50% of the audience at each speaking engagement. On top of that, established speakers are paid $5000 and up for each speaking engagement.

Tom Antion’s site is filled with help, resources and services to help speakers get ahead. If you want to crack into speaking or become a better speaker, this is the place for you. Click Here

Have You Heard?

Google is beta testing a new chat group site that is definitely worth looking into. They have a self publishing group with about 31 members currently and it's a great place to connect with other authors and publishers. Here's the link to that particular group:
