The Ink Tree Report
I can say with some certainty that
wherever it is that you are reading this, the weather is probably
better than it is here. I'm almost wondering if my calendar is
broken because it says May, but every time I look outside more of
that wet white fluff is falling from the sky. What is the deal???
On the bright side, I'm not tempted
to be outside finding fun things to do rather than sitting inside
working. I guess that's a bright side. Come on, let's talk about
publishing to keep my mind off it.

EBooks: How Important Are They?
As technology
changes so it impacts the world of publishing. eBooks are gaining
ground daily. Now with technology bringing a “portable library”
into our briefcases and handbags it has become an important factor
when publishing your book.
I think the
world of reading will be divided as time goes on. There will always
be those who prefer the “feel of the book and the turning of the
pages” and those who love to keep their own hard copy library filled
with their authors of choice and important reading, but it is true
to say that e-books are a necessary and very important component of
your business. Eventually e-books will be viewed much like
Cilantro: you either love it or hate it (and maybe a few on the
fence) but nevertheless, e-books are extremely important to your
business!
I personally
can see the value in an “e-Book Reader”, but know that I will never
be able to give up the "feel of the book" and the page turning which
for me is part of the enjoyment of reading a book!
My husband,
on the other hand, thinks that the "E-book Reader" is just awesome
and cannot wait for Fathers Day, his Birthday or Christmas to
receive one of these. He loves the concept: the ease of having as
many books as you want right at your finger tips, the compactness of
having many books in one device, and the simplicity of books that
fit so nicely and easily to take just about anywhere. He is quite
happy to have his library held within his reader.
From a
business side of things I would say it is a MUST to cover all areas.
When publishing, it makes good sense to have your book available
both traditionally and electronically so you can cover all those
"divided camps" and not lose a very important and lucrative stream
of income!
Knowing
what’s going on and keeping up with the ever changing world of
publishing is one of the differences between success and failure.

Questions from Self Publishers
Q: How do I get the media
to pay attention when I send them my book?
A:
First, you want to come up with a good story. An angle.
Something that makes you stand out and makes your book
newsworthy. There has to be a story there, not just a book.
Second, you have to have a GREAT news release. This is something
you can do yourself, but it's not easy. There is a reason why
publicity is a specialty and people make a living out of writing
press materials. Make sure it's good. Third, give them
everything they need. Producers and editors want all of their
questions answered in the materials you send. You want to make
their jobs as easy as possible so that you don't leave them with
a whole bunch of questions.
