Is publishing your main business or is it an add-on
to what you already do? No matter what your business is, publishing
your own book gives you an incredible amount of credibility. That's what this month's article is
all about. Read on...
Being an author
gives you the credibility you need to expand your business
If you are an entrepreneur, or you are a
professional consultant, being a published author can elevate you to
the rank of expert in your field. Your status as an author increases
the respect you receive from customers and business associates.
Wouldn’t you be more likely to purchase widgets from the business
person who wrote the book on widgets? So would thousands of others –
new customers are more likely to take advice from, or purchase
services and products from, a published expert. Many entrepreneurs
increase the visibility and profit levels of their businesses simply
by writing a book on their area of expertise.
When you write a book, people recognize you as an authority on that
subject. And you are! By putting in the time and effort to write and
research the content of a book, you have proven that you know what
you’re talking about. Your writing and research prove that you know
your subject matter inside and out, providing a resource that people
can refer to over and over again.
Most entrepreneurs love to hear that publishing a book can easily
lead to increased fees. People will pay more to work with an
established expert than someone who seems less established in a
field. Your book gives you instant added credentials. Being a
published author elevates your status to celebrity, especially if
you use the book to gain media attention to yourself and your bank
of knowledge. It would be nice to add “author of…” behind your name,
wouldn’t it?
If you are not already a consultant, a book along with its attached
implication of proven expert status could bring you new consulting
opportunities. You can bill for your time to educate, speak to,
advise and work with other companies and individuals, helping them
achieve success through what you know. Consultants can charge fees
greatly in excess of what their corporate counterparts charge.
Not only does a book increase your credibility and your expert
status in your field, a book allows you to add a product to your
existing business. Expanding your product and service line is never
a bad thing. The expansion will open all kinds of doors in your
marketing plan. You can market special packages for your services –
packages that include the book as an “added value”. People love to
receive something for “free”.
Writing and publishing a book can be the launching pad to an
expanded business for you.

Questions from Self Publishers
Q: "What are
endorsements and how do I pay for them?"
A: OK, rule
number 1 - never, ever pay for endorsements. That defeats the
purpose. Endorsements are not paid commercials. They are
recommendations. Endorsements come from people (best of all
celebrities if you can get them), other than you, saying that
your book did something beneficial for them, whether it solved a
problem, it provided information that they were looking for, it
entertained them or its content impressed them.
Endorsements are external sources of credibility. They let the
reader know that someone other than you, the author, believes
that your book is great. They are stamps of approval.
Like publicity, endorsements are priceless. Get as many as you
can and add them to your book cover, your media kit, your
business materials and your website.

Who Rescued
Who?
Janis Power, Author
http://www.designing-edu.com/
Written for the purpose of helping children
understand the death of a pet. It is an excellent realistic fiction
chapter book written for children ages 6-9, but touches the heart of
many beyond that. It is about a 10 year old boy who learns his first
puppy is very ill. The emotional outbursts he proclaims will bring
tears to your eyes and allows readers to grieve. If you are a
counselor, teacher, or veterinarian, this book can play an important
role in educating a child and all who read it. If you are a parent
or grandparent, this book can be an awesome tool in helping a little
one in your life to understand the multiple emotions that come out
when grieving the loss of a pet. Who Rescued Who? can also be used
to parallel other losses in a child's life.
