they’ve come to wisdom through failure.
We get very little wisdom from success."

DOG DAYS OF
SUMMER, OR... THE PERFECT TIME TO WRITE!
Summer looks like it is finally here! What better
time than the lazy “dog days” of summer to find the time to write
that book you have always wanted to write, or perhaps finish one
that you have already started and/or get working on that second
book?
What better time to find the inspiration to write that book…you have
been procrastinating through the winter, or perhaps all your life to
find that perfect topic or thing that you want to write about - well
now is the perfect time.
So, sit back, enjoy the summer months and start those creative
juices flowing. Read books that have been sitting on a shelf or your
bedside table, search out topics on the internet that have always
interested you, but one of the most important things you can do is
sit back and throughout this summer observe and watch people and the
world as it goes by as this is your “blank sheet of paper” and where
you can start that pen writing:
• what better opportunity when you are at the lake or the beach to
watch children play and interact – perhaps this is where you find
your inspiration to write that “Children’s Book”?
• what better opportunity when you are touring across the country to
observe how beautiful and lucky we all are to live in your country –
perhaps this is where you find your inspiration for that “Poetry
Book” or even a “Photography Book”?
• what better opportunity when you are touring a beautiful city or
famous landmark to observe people – perhaps this is where you find
your inspiration to write that “Self Help Book”?
Oprah talks regularly about the “Aha” moment and we at Ink Tree
believe that for each and every writer to pick up a pen, sit at a
computer or even talk into a recorder they need to find their “Aha”
moment which will inspire them to follow a writing dream or continue
one that has already started.
There seems to be less stress in the summer, it’s time for the
family and friends and the BBQ season brings us together more with
the ones we love and enjoy. As we spend the next 3 months doing all
the things that we love so much about the summer, try and do the
following three things:
• really listen to people
• watch closer than you have before, and
• ask questions that will offer everyone we are around the
opportunity to talk to us, perhaps in a way they never have before
and encourage them to keep talking
At Ink Tree, we believe that those three points will open up all
kinds of possibilities for all you writers out there to find that
“Aha” moment in the upcoming “dog days of summer” and in turn will
inspire each one of you to write your way to achieving your dream.

Questions from Self Publishers
Q: "When I print my
book, how many should I print?"
A: Well,
that depends on what you're going to do with your book. Are you
just giving it out to family and friends? Are you selling it
only locally? Are you signing up with a distributor and going
full-steam ahead? Keep in mind that the more books you print,
the cheaper each book will be to print. Also keep in mind that
when you are selling your book to bookstore and other large
commercial buyers, you will be selling that at a discount of at
least 60%.
